The basic operation of PyxisControl, after configuring its connections (see Connecting Pyxis and/or Connecting TheSkyX), is managed by the Control tab.
The first panel displays and controls the Position Angle and compensates for any camera offset. It is described on the page Position Angle and Camera Offset.
The second panel allows incremental or relative adjustments to the Position Angle. It is decribed on the page Incremental Control.
The third panel shows the Position Angle on a dial, and this dial can also control the Pyxis. It is described on the page Rotation Dial.
The firmware in the Optec Pyxis Rotators has undergone several revisions, and these changes are implemented as hard-coding within the devices' microcontroller. Amongst the revisions have been a number of additional commands.
To update the firmware the microcontroller itself must be replaced. Therefore the installed base of equipment encompasses all versions of the firmware.
PyxisControl takes advantage of all the commands where it can, but it tailors its behaviour to the firmware of the connected device to emulate, as closely as possible, a common behaviour. However, this is not always possible: one inevitable consequence is that the usage of fractional angles in versions of the firmware before early May 2011 (v2.03 for the 2 inch and v3.40 for the 3 inch) is suppressed.
